Turning hot with another heatwave (again)! Update on Fires...

July 28, 2024

It's Sunday (July 28)! High temperatures all of last week were 80-85°, which is within +/- 2-3° of our 84° normal. Near normal high temps will continue through Tuesday (some clouds and maybe an isolated shower Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning). Wednesday through next weekend, high pressure becomes strong across the west and another heat wave occurs with highs topping out in the low to mid 90's. July 31-August 12,strong high pressure with above normal high temperatures (and a heatwave) are more likely than not (I'm just the messenger).

REGIONAL FIRES: Several fires are burning east of Cottage Grove. Currently, NONE pose any threat to the city or immediate surrounding area. These fires are zero percent contained (contained is how much of a line has been put around the fire so it doesn't spread). It'll probably take until September, when we get our first rains of the fall season, before we see major progress with these fires. Fire Danger Rating in Lane County is at HIGH but just to our south in Douglass County it's at EXTREME. Here's a good map with current info on the fires: https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/ (NOTE that depending on the fire, updates occur anywhere from once to several times daily).
