Cold with low chances for a dusting, warmer late next week...

March 3, 2023

11:30am Friday: As what's been the case with the past two snow events, a main cold low pressure system will sit off the Oregon coast and spin waves of energy through the region. All ingredients need to come together just right for snow to fall in Cottage Grove, so we may end up with nothing. Chances of snow in Cottage Grove? 50/50 that we'll see no snow, rain/snow mix, or a dusting to 1".

  • 3am-10am Saturday: A dusting to 1" is possible. Whatever falls in town will melt throughout the day.
  • Saturday night/Sunday morning: Another opportunity for a dusting to 1". Whatever falls in town will melt throughout the day.
  • Sunday night/Monday morning: Possibly a dusting. Whatever falls in town will melt throughout the day.
  • See the trend with the above bullet points? Nights & mornings have the best chances for a dusting or so.
  • Breezy tonight-Saturday with wind gusts up to 25 mph.
  • Total combined rainfall through Tuesday is 1/2" or less. We're still running behind by about 10" of rain, but the snowpack is staying around 100% of average. Latest drought update still shows 77% of Oregon in a drought.
  • Cold, below normal temperatures will continue through Thursday then we may star to be around normal for a change starting next Friday (see chart below).
  • Icy roads/pavement most nights & mornings. Remember your pets.
  • Next Friday into the following weekend, a wet and "warm" storm may bring 1-2" of rain with snow levels above 5000-6000'. I'll talk about this possibility more next week.
  • Clocks "Spring Forward" one hour on March 12 (a week from Sunday).
