Chances of snow? It's complicated!

December 16, 2022

To Snow or Not to Snow. While chances of light snow will be in the picture here on Sunday and Monday, don't count on it. Or at least don't count on anything more than some flakes or a dusting. Although temperatures may be cold enough for snow, the low pressure system coming down from the north will have very little moisture with it. Best chances for more than a dusting of snow looks to be from about Portland north. Bottom line zero to 1" of snowfall here (Sun/Mon, as it looks now).

Tuesday through Christmas, three to four additional storm systems then pass through. These storms are expected to drag up some “warmer” moisture / air from the southwest, which may greatly reduce or eliminate our chances of a white Christmas. In fact, predicted temperatures are quite warm for Christmas (predicted temps are preliminary and may change). THAT SAID, it's not a zero chance of us seeing any snow Tuesday through Christmas (if colder air moves in), but the chances are extremely low. Any unexpected shift southwestward of the cold air from the north would increase our snow potential. *Note that the prediction accuracy with next week's pattern is low at this time and may therefore change over the next few days.
