Below normal temps to continue, more storms on the way!

March 27, 2023

MONDAY UPDATE: Potent little low pressure system offshore (and cut-off from the jet stream) will cause light rain to develop later this afternoon or early evening. Although the center of this storm system will stay well west of the area as it slowly drifts south offshore, clouds / moisture will be spun into our area today and Tuesday. Just a few isolated showers Wed/Thur (more dry than wet). Several storm systems will then affect the region Friday through early next week, causing periods of rain and breezy conditions.

  • Winds below 15 mph through Thursday, then gusts up to 25 mph at times Friday into early next week.
  • Total rainfall today/Tuesday 1/4" or less. Friday into early next week looks to add a combined total of 1" to 1.50".
  • Snow levels today-Tuesday 2500-3000'. Wed/Thur 3500-4000'. Friday through Sunday 2000-2500', then early next week 1200-2000'. No snow expected in Cottage Grove through Tuesday of next week.
  • Temperatures over the next 10-days will generally remain below the normal high/low of 58/36. Next week will be cooler than this week.
  • Since the start of the water year on Oct 1, we've recorded 24.09" of rainfall. Normal to date is 34.43, which puts as at 70%. Snowpack is doing great, statewide average is 123-148%. Unfortunately, 73% of Oregon remains in a drought. We will not make up rainfall deficits by summer and drought will continue through at least fall.
  • La Nina has fully dissipated, El Nino will likely develop later this summer or early fall. El Nino has three different strengths, each having different impacts here. A weak El Nino is expected, which, historically, puts odds at a 50/50 chance for above or below normal precipitation next fall/winter.
